There are several different CNC machines at the hackerspace. Each has some very specific strenghths, weaknesses, and specific uses.
- The Shapeoko 3 XXL is located in the wood shop in section 4. It is well suited to larger projects cutting wood and plywood. It has the BitSetter and BitZero V1 upgrade kits, with a working area of about 33x33x3 inches.
- The Othermills are located in the craft lab and electronics lab. They are primarily useful for milling PCBs because of their specialized software.
- The Carvera Air is located in the electronics lab. It has a 12x8x5" work area. It is well suited to precise wood, abs, epoxy, acrylic, and soft metal milling. It includes an add-on laser, 4th axis, and PCB tools.
Before using any of the machines, read through the details, documentations, and processes listes here for the specific machines. In adition, be sure you are familiar with the following general CNC information:
- CNC 101 Introduction covers some core concepts common to all the CNC machines at the space. This is a good place to start.
- CNC Safety points out several important safety considerations. You must be familiar with this to use any of the CNC Machines.
- CNC Resources contains tools and other references for general CNC work. Anything specific to one of our CNC machins should go on the tool page instead.
