Kenny has a PDF of the user manual for this machine. Hopefully we will figure out how to upload files that can be linked from here.
This machine is a little quirky (probably due to needing some TLC) but it should be mostly operable and is a more durable design than average. It should be used for heavy materials like canvas or heavy nylon instead of the other machines. One of the most challenging quirks is changing the stitch type. The following steps seem to work consistently;
If moving the stitch selector multiple selections at once and the stretch-stitch indicator doesn't follow, change one stitch at a time, run the machine through the selected stitch for a second, then repeat steps to move to the next stitch.
If the stitch selector won't turn, don't force it! Make sure the top thread take-up lever is in the highest position, apply pressure to the stitch selector dial and toggle the buttonhole selector all the way left and right several times. Note: the stitch selector will not turn between M and the backwards dotted green C; you must go all the way around the other way.
The flat side of the needle must face the thumb screw. Be sure the needle is all the way up and very tight.
Pass thread through both thread guides on top of the machine then wrap around the tensioner, down the right side, under and up the left side. Pull thread tail up towards one-o'clock and relax so that thread goes behind the capture plate on the tensioner and behind the loop guide on the way up to the take-up lever. Thread through the take-up lever eye from right to left (thread end comes out the left) and pull back down, passing behind the loop guide a second time. Hook behind the guide at the bottom of the machine head and wrap around guide to the left of the needle thumb-screw. Finally, thread the needle from left to right (thread end comes out the right) and drag the thread end under the presser foot.
Select M on the stitch selector using the instructions above. Set the stitch width to 0. Buttonhole selector should be on 0. Make sure the M/S lever is on M. For most fabrics, use the "High" setting on the drop-feed control knob (below the stitch-width selector) with pressure cap (above the presser foot) all the way down.
Make selections exactly as for straight stitching, but change the stitch width dial (markings 0-5, does not have an R in the middle of the dial) to be greater than 0.
